The Chincoteague Seafood Festival at Tom’s Cove Park returns on May 2, 2026, bringing together fresh local seafood, live music, handmade goods, and one of the most anticipated spring celebrations on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.
Held annually on Chincoteague Island, this beloved event draws visitors from near and far for a full day of coastal flavor, island traditions, and community fun. Whether you’re here for a weekend RV getaway, a week-long island vacation, or just a quick coastal getaway, Tom’s Cove Park is the perfect home base for experiencing the festival, along with easy access to fishing piers, waterfront views, and classic coastal camping along the shoreline.
Here are five things to know before heading to the 56th Annual Chincoteague Seafood Festival.
1. Come Ready to Eat
One of the biggest highlights of the Chincoteague Seafood Festival is the all-you-can-eat experience featuring fresh Virginia Eastern Shore favorites. Prepared onsite by local restaurants, volunteers and longtime festival cooks, creating the signature flavors the festival is known for year after year.
Guests can indulge in a wide variety of seafood and classic dishes, including:
- Steamed shrimp
- Little neck clams, a long-time festival staple!
- Raw oysters and clams
- Single fried oysters
- Fried fish
- Clam chowder
- Clam fritters
- Hushpuppies
- Crab cheddar jalapeño poppers
- Grilled chicken
- Salad bar
- Boardwalk fried, sweet potato fries, and cornbread
Here’s how it works:
- Food booths are clearly marked with banners showing what each serves
- Freshly prepared seafood means a steady flow of guests throughout the day, with lines moving continuously as food is served
- Arriving earlier gives you the fullest festival experience, with the widest variety of items to enjoy
- Two servings per trip, per person, helps keep lines moving and ensures everyone gets a chance to try everything
- Additional servings are welcome – you can return to any booth as often as you’d like
Your ticket also includes water, soda, and coffee, making it easy to stay refreshed throughout the day. Beer is available for purchase separately with a valid photo ID (cash only).
2. Arrive Early for the Best Experience
The festival officially runs from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, but arriving early can make the day much more enjoyable.
Guests with standard admission can enter when the gates open at 10:00 AM, while appetizer tents begin serving at 11:00 AM and seafood tents begin serving at 12:00 PM. Live music starts at noon and continues through the afternoon.
Festival Timeline
- 10:00 AM – Gates open
- 11:00 AM – Appetizer tents begin serving
- 12:00 PM – Seafood tents begin serving & live music begins
- 4:00 PM – Festival ends
- 6:00 PM – Festival grounds clear
Getting here early gives you time to explore, find a good spot, settle in, and enjoy the full range of food and entertainment before peak crowds arrive.
3. Best Way to Get Here
Parking at Tom’s Cove Park is very limited on festival day, so planning ahead can make your experience much smoother. That’s why we strongly encourage guests to take advantage of the free Pony Express Trolley or consider walking or biking if you’re staying nearby.
The trolley is the easiest and most stress-free way to arrive at the Chincoteague Seafood Festival, helping you skip any traffic and get straight to the fun.
Free Pony Express Trolley Details
- Runs 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM on festival day
- Free for all festival guests
- Green and Red routes run approximately every 30 minutes
- Direct shuttle service from Chincoteague Combined School (4586 Main Street)
- Parking at the school is encouraged for easiest access to the trolley
- Handicap accessible
- After 5:00 PM, return rides are available from the trolley hut at $0.50 per person
We recommend avoiding Veterans Memorial Park for parking, as it is not a direct trolley route and may increase travel time.
For guests staying nearby, taking the scenic walking and biking trails to the festival is also a great way to enjoy the island scenery.
4. What to Bring With You
A little preparation can make your festival day much more comfortable.
Because the festival spans a large campground area, many guests bring:
- Folding chairs or blankets for seating
- Small tables for convenience
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Sunscreen and water-resistant layers (weather dependent)
- Cash for beer & desserts tents, raffle tickets, and some merchandise, which may not take credit cards
Being prepared helps you relax and enjoy the full day without interruptions.
5. There’s More Than Just Seafood
While the seafood is the main attraction, there is plenty more to enjoy throughout the festival grounds.
Guests can enjoy live music from Island Boy Music, browse the Arts & Crafts Corral, and shop handmade goods from local artisans and vendors.
Festival extras include:
- Souvenir trays available at merchandise and beer tents (perfect for carrying food)
- Souvenir mugs sold at the beer tent
- Festival apparel, including t-shirts and hats at the merchandise tent
- The Extravaganza Raffle, featuring prizes like lodging, tickets, gift certificates, and more for next year’s festival
Merchandise is popular and often sells out quickly, so early shopping is recommended.
